MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA


The Vision - The International Association of Baggage System Companies is committed to providing a unified voice to the Airline and Airport Industry. To serve as an ambassador assisting in the improvement of the Airline and Airport Baggage Handling Systems Industry. To bring Standards, Education, Innovation, Quality and Economical benefits to the industry as a whole.

The Mission - The International Association of Baggage System Companies is an organization committed to improving the Airport/Airline Industry in areas associated with Baggage Handling Systems. The IABSC intends to provide improvements to the industry by playing an active role by means of providing a voice to the Baggage professionals, education, implementing standards and working with other industry leaders to ensure the development of Baggage Systems that will provide economical, safe and secure Baggage Systems for the Airline Industry and the traveling public of the future.


GENERAL

The IABSC was formed to bring together independent practicing professionals in the field of Baggage Handling, and to communicate the benefits of allied professionals and the public at large.

The established IABSC Member devotes the majority of his/her professional time working within the Airport or Airline Industry or has vested interest, contributes to the industry in part or as a whole and/or is professional or governmental body having a special interest. All of which will be required to subscribe to the Vision and Mission statements and the Code of Ethics and Professional Standards.


A. QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP

1. Members in all grades shall subscribe to the ideals, goals, Vision Statement and Mission Statement of the Association.

2. Voting members shall subscribe to the ideals, goals, Vision Statement, Mission Statement and shall subscribe to the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. Voting members, as part of submission for membership and as part of yearly payment of dues for membership, shall be a signatory to a written agreement to abide by the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

B. CHARTER MEMBERS

1. A Charter Member shall devote the majority of his/her professional time to the design, supply, manufacture and implementation of baggage handling systems. Candidates for Charter Membership shall have, at the time his/her application is submitted, at least ten (10) years of experience in the field of Baggage Handling System Supply. The process for application for Charter Membership is outlined in the Charter Membership Application Procedures attached to the end of these Criteria. Candidates for Charter Membership must complete an application and submit references, resume, project list and portfolio of work.

2. All applications for Charter Membership must be approved by unanimous vote of the IABSC elected Directors.

3. The Membership Committee may, by unanimous vote of all committee members, invite applications for Charter Membership from other senior Baggage System experts with ten (10) or more years of experience whose body of work is well known and highly respected. For these special applicants, the Committee will require the submission of references, resume, project list, and the portfolio of work.

C. ASSOCIATE MEMBERS

1. A candidate for Associate membership shall be an outstanding member of the profession in the Airline and/or Airport Industry. Candidates for Associate Membership shall submit a Membership Application as nomination of stated applicant. The IABSC elected Directors shall approve the applicant/application with an affirmative vote of not less than three-fifths (3/5) of the Board of Directors participating in the election of new members, provided a quorum is met, and three-fifths (3/5) of the Board of Directors to this category. The process is outlined in the Membership Selection Process attached to the end of these Criteria.

D. AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP

1. The Membership Committee shall be guided by the following criteria to apply to all Affiliate Members:

a. Affiliate Memberships shall be open to all Airports, Airport Authorities and Airlines only. All applications shall be approved by the IABSC; elected Directors shall approve the applicant/application with an affirmative vote of not less than three-fifths (3/5) of the Board of Directors participating in the election of new members, provided a quorum is met, and three-fifths (3/5) of the Board of Directors to this category. The process is outlined in the Membership Selection Process attached to the end of these Criteria. It is anticipated that all Affiliate Memberships will pass unanimously.

b. Those individuals representing an Airport Authority and/or Airline for an Affiliate Member shall devote the majority of his/her professional time performing business in the Airport/Airline Industry.

2. Candidates for Affiliate Membership must complete an application and include the following materials. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

a. A resume including professional experience/employment history and educational background of the representative applicant.

b. Two (2) business/work references that are not related to you and not your current employer. If possible, please include at least one IABSC Member.

E. COLLEAGUE MEMBERS

1. Colleague Members shall be those who are Government bodies, other Associations, Educators and other legitimate Professionals that have an active association with the Airport / Airline / Baggage System Industry and are in Good Standing in the same.

2. A Colleague Member shall abide by the Code of Ethics and Professional Standards, Vision Statement and Mission Statement of the Association.

3. Colleague Members shall be required to submit a Membership Application, no vote is required. Conforming applications will be approved upon receipt and payment of the first year’s dues.

F. HONORARY MEMBERS

1. Honorary Members shall be those who are Retired Professionals, Students, Media and other Special Interest person(s)/groups that have a legitimate active association with the Airport / Airline / Baggage System Industry and are in Good Standing in the same.

2. A Honorary Member shall abide by the Code of Ethics and Professional Standards, Vision Statement and Mission Statement of the Association.

3. Honorary Members shall be required to submit a Membership Application, no vote is required. Conforming applications will be approved upon receipt and payment of the first year’s dues.

G. FULL VOTING MEMBERS

1. Only the Board of Directors shall have the exclusive right to vote on all matters pertaining to the affairs of the Association.

2. The following levels of membership shall have the right to put forth referendums or initiatives to be voted on by:

a. Charter

b. Associate

c. Affiliate

Which shall be ratified by the Board of Directors.

H. RESTRICTED VOTING MEMBERS

1. The following grades of membership shall be VOTING MEMBERS of the Association and shall have to vote on all referendums pertaining to the affairs of the Association.

a. Associate

b. Affiliate

I. NON-VOTING MEMBERS

1. The following grades of membership shall be NON-VOTING MEMBERS of the Association and shall have no rights to vote on matters pertaining to the affairs of the Association.

a. Colleague

b. Honorary

(i) Press Affiliates: An individual who is a member in good standing of the staff of or a freelance consultant for a publication that is devoted to reporting or photographing items of interest in the field of the Baggage Handling Industry.


K. USE OF CORPORATE NAME OR INITIALS OR LOGO

All members shall use the following specific guidelines in identifying themselves as members of the IABSC according to their membership grade.

CHARTER: <Charter Member’s Name>, Charter Member of the IABSC or Charter Member of the International Association of Baggage System Companies.

ASSOCIATE: <Associate Member’s Name>, Associate Member of the IABSC or Associate Member of the International Association of Baggage System Companies.

AFFILIATE: <Affiliate Member’s Name>, Affiliate Member of the IABSC or Affiliate Member of the International Association of Baggage System Companies.

COLLEAGUE: <Colleague Member’s Name>, Colleague Member of the IABSC or Colleague Member of the International Association of Baggage System Companies.

HONORARY: <Honorary Member’s Name>, Honorary Member of the IABSC or Honorary Member of the International Association of Baggage System Companies.
